Mommy report: Granulation

We've had a good almost-three-months with the stoma site and PEG/button, but it's now started to grow some granulation tissue. Let's just say it's not fun to deal with. Look, if you like ,at an example. Tonight it escalated to the point that I used silver nitrate on it, so we'll see how it looks in the morning. We may have to check in again with the doc before we leave here to head home. I'm praying it just goes away quickly.

As an FYI, this is a normal thing that often comes with the g-tube/button situation. Nothing unexpected or especially dangerous, I just had hoped we could dodge it.

  1. I checked out the site and gained some education. I experienced silver nitrate sticks once -- you don't want to know the details.... ;o)

As we pray for Jeremiah Been in S. Africa and Levi in STL to gain weight, we are, of course, praying that this will not be a problem for Braska or you.

  2. That is such a bummer. I know it is manageable and to be expected but after three months, it seems unfair to get it now.
I keep hearing about this silver nitrate but I didn't realise it was in sticks. Maybe it isn't here. Everytime I read something like this here I curse my socialist healthcare.

  3. Sorry to hear she got some of that granulation tissue also.

Tommy's silver nitrate was applied by our pediatrician and took off much more skin surrounding the peg than either of us expected. Needless to say the granulation tissue is gone, but so is the top layer of skin about 1/2 inch surrounding the peg. Bummer. Hopefully that doesn't happen to Braska, but if it does, I'll let you know what the 'wound nurse' here at the hospital did to drastically improve our situation.

RK, I love your site and thank you so much for posting great info here. I know it takes time and effort and I wanted to say thanks. You and Braska area month or two ahead of Tommy and I so I look to your site often.

    Happy New Year!

  4. hey I forgot to mention that we saved ourselves a trip to the hospital by emailing a photo to the GI clinic when I thought Julia's site was infected the week after she had it done.
Maybe you would rather go in but I was happy to have them just call in the antibiotic prescription to the drug store near our house after they looked at the photo.
I know, socialist healthcare. its scary.

Braska's reaction to meeting the very kind Rory Feek and his beautiful daughter Indy.  I missed the part where Braska said Indy was sooooooooooo cute!  :) Our dream would be a photo showing the two most beautiful "states" together, right?!?  :)
