31 for 21: Reading together

Braska reporting :   Sometimes KiKi and I will read together. I can read books by myself, but she’s a lot faster at it than I am.  I like to sit with her and look while she reads books to me. On Friday, we were reading Curious George.  It’s a big book with lots of his stories in it.   While we were reading, she asked me to scratch an itch on her arm.  She kept telling me where to scratch for her.  I’m happy to help.  She reads books to me, and I scratch for her.  We work pretty well together. Mommy’s Edit : I found this tonight, and I couldn’t help but smile… how far they’ve come!  From 6/28/2009, ages 2.5 and almost 5 months…  the leaning and supporting roles are a bit reversed now, but they’re still together.

31 for 21: Learning Program Day

This morning I went to class. It’s not at my school, it’s a special class I go to each month.  It’s called The Learning Program and it’s all about learning to read.  So far, I can read all the books they give me, but it’s good for me to practice with the pictures and the words.  They told Mommy today that they’re going to try to make it a little harder for me so I don’t get too lazy.  That’s ok, because I just LOVE to work on words.  I got new books today, but tonight we reviewed my books from last month to make sure I still know all the words and can do the work right. I’m gonna do a movie soon of my reading so you can see it.  I really like to read!

188/366 One Fish. Two Fish. The Movie.

I have been wanting to read everything lately!  Mommy and I do reading practice every day, and I like to read a lot by myself.  I know lots of words, but when I don’t know, I ask KiKi or I just pretend it’s a different word. Here’s a movie Mommy took of me reading today. (Mommy note: She is not a speed reader, but she is doing SO well and is so very into the reading thing.  She’s spending a lot of time each day practicing. My favorite parts are the “I mean…” she says each time she messes up and realizes it. Go refresh your drink and come back for storytime…) Later, I took a ride on my rocking horse.  I can use it all by myself. Well, except for the getting up and down part.  Here’s my first picture on that rocking horse from back in the day … (March 17, 2007)

187/366 Watch me read!

We’re catching up on our daily stories, (and there’s some more movies down there to see, so if you haven’t read the other days, you should go back and see some of them!) but I wanted to tell you about this today! This morning, Mommy was writing sentences for us on the Magna Doodle, and then we would take turns reading them. She did a few little short ones that I read to her, and she was happy. Then she did a couple that were a bit harder. And I did them fine too!  She was surprised! So she wrote another one, and gave it to me to read.  She didn’t point at the words or show me where to look, and she took a movie of it….  Mommy was REALLY excited that I did so well! It is usually very hard for me to know where to look when I’m reading.  It’s not easy for me to keep my eyes in the right place, so even though I know lots of words, it’s hard to read in sentences.  But I’m getting better! I’m gonna be SO ready for kindergarten next month!!

123/366 Sunny books

Library trips are fun. We usually read a lot of books, but we don’t usually bring them home.  Mommy always asks us if we want to, but we just like to leave them there to read the next time.  This time it was different. We each picked a book and took it home. Story time before bed is gonna be great!

Reading to Kidlet

We have a new buddy who comes over sometimes. Kidlet comes to our house, and I think it's pretty fun. The other day, I asked if Kidlet wanted to hear me read a book. I couldn't really understand what Kidlet said, but I decided that EVERYONE needs to know their farm animals, so I was gonna read anyway. If you don't know your farm animals, you can come over and I'll read YOU a book, too!
