Mommy report: Icky baby

Braska is sick. This is the first time, except for last April's dehydration/rotavirus, that she's been sick, of any kind. It's amazing. And it's horrible that we're there now. She has been miserable since just after I put her to bed last night, around 9:30pm. She wouldn't sleep without being held all night, waking often to squirm and cry, screaming each time I tried to sneak her onto the bed with me or into the pack n'play. I'm thinking it's a stomach thing, but she's got a fever too. I stayed up with her til 4 am, snoozing a few minutes while sitting up, when she woke up Grandma C with a scream. Then Grandma was nice enough to cuddle her and keep her sleeping so I could grab a few hours of sleep myself. Big thanks to Grandma C!

So today we'll sit and rock and hope she can sleep it off soon. We've got the house to ourselves as Grandma and Grandpa went to work, so we'll just have a quiet day. I was just now able to set her down for the first time since last night, and she stayed asleep in a big fluffy blanket on the couch. We'll see how long it lasts, but I best run to the bathroom while I can. I've never seen her like this, but I guess this is what sick one-year-olds do.

Your prayers are appreciated. I'm feeling less than great and hope I don't end up with whatever it is as well. Someone be sure to enjoy this Midwest warm up today for us!

  8. Poor Braska, and mommy! I hope you feel better soon, Braska. RK, one positive way to look at your child being sick (If there truly is a positive way) is you get the snuggle time with them. I don't know about Braska, but my girls hardly ever snuggle anymore and I miss it terribly!

Mommy report: Chatty girl

Braska's been just loving her words lately. She's still signing some, mostly when we're in public or around strangers, but she's adding more words all the time. Many of her words are just attempts at the actual word, but that's where we all start, right?!? We're not saying that she'll be giving speeches next month, but we are very proud that she's become such a mimic and that she is loving using so many sounds. We practice often, just running through her words, signs, and tricks. She especially loves to chime in with videos of herself, so I've been working on compiling all her favorites for her to work with. As I was editing this, she was sitting here saying the words over and over. So funny to hear her talking to herself on the screen and loving it. So here's a peek at some clips from our practice session tonight. Some words are more obvious than others. They are all great attempts, though, and we'll celebrate that! Make an on-line

Nebraska meets Indiana

Braska's reaction to meeting the very kind Rory Feek and his beautiful daughter Indy.  I missed the part where Braska said Indy was sooooooooooo cute!  :) Our dream would be a photo showing the two most beautiful "states" together, right?!?  :)
