Mommy report: More sight words please!

Twelve days ago, I pulled out the flashcards that go with the Meet the Sight Words videos that the girls got for Christmas a couple weeks before. The girls have become slightly obsessed with their sight words flashcards over the past couple of weeks. They ask to “do flashcards” about 10 times a day, and we actually get them out and go through at least some of them 3 or 4 times a day, more if we’re home all day.

The result, combined with the clear slant towards loving to learn that these girls have, is that they’ve got them all down. There are more than 45 words in the flashcard set, and the 3 coordinating videos go over the same words. (These words are from the Dolch list, in case you wonder how they chose these particular words.)

And no, this is not a paid endorsement for Preschool Prep Company. But I’d be happy to do one!

Yesterday, the girls wanted to do them again after lunch, but Kinlee quickly melted to mush as she was very ready for nap. So I thought it would be a good chance to get some video of Braska doing them on her own. I handed her a few cards and put Kinlee to nap. When I got back to the kitchen, she was going through them very methodically, so I just turned on the camera and captured that. (That’s the first section of the video below.) Then she wanted more, as always, so I recorded more, done at her pace and with her occasional silliness.

This is a long video, I admit, but for those of you who are in this phase (and grandparents and relatives) you will probably enjoy the peek at Braska on her own, doing what she loves. I am very proud of this girl! Don’t worry, Kinlee is not chopped liver, she’ll get her video chance soon, I’m quite sure.

A couple disclaimers…
***She went to nap right after this was shot, and had gone to school in the morning, so she wasn’t her sharpest, but did pretty well overall. She often does much better with enunciation and quicker responses. But I’ll take it!
***She was very congested this day, so the habit of working her tongue around a lot was even more pronounced. I admit I don’t like to post that kind of thing…vanity, I know…but I felt it was important not to edit this, but give a real glimpse at how she looks.
***There are repeated words, because they have the ‘a’ and ‘g’ in both the simple form and the more formal type. So words that have an ‘a’ or a ‘g’ are duplicated.
***If you don’t have time to watch the whole thing, watch the beginning section and then go to about 11 minutes and watch for a bit… too cute.
***And finally, I didn’t realize that tapping or touching the table would resonate through the camera so much, so I apologize for that poor sound element. But I believe that you can hear most of what she says pretty clearly.

If you have any questions about what she’s doing or any of this process, feel free to ask!

Happy 6 months to me!

I'm 6 months old today. Wow...it seems like a lifetime!! Mommy helped me put together a neat thing to share with you, but you should know that it's really for my dad. He's the best Pop a girl could have. Just remember, girls, he's mine and Mommy's, and we're keeping him! Hey Pop, thanks for hanging in there with us for six whole months! Go Team Woods! Make a video - it's fun, easy and free! www.onetruemedia.com

Getting ready for Idol!

Here at our house we always watch American Idol from the beginning to the end. I like all the music, and Mommy and Daddy like to make guesses on who will win. I love to sing and listen to songs and Mommy has been singing songs to me since I was a tiny baby, so we do songs every day. We're getting ready for Idol to start soon, so we've been singing extra! Last night, I thought I would do my first movie of singing time. I was in a pretty silly mood and didn't want to be still, but Mommy thought I should let you see anyway. This is the song I know the best, Jesus Loves Me, but it's not my best showing of it, that's for sure. And this is my favorite song from my FAVORITE show... Blue's Clues!!! Usually I can say Blue's Clues really nice and show the hands like Steve does, but I didn't feel like it when Mommy got the camera out. But the Mail song is always fun! (Mommy even got a word wrong but I knew my part!)
