Mommy report: Two steps back

Today so far Braska has been asleep. She will not nurse or take a bottle at all, so they are back to using the NG tube and a pump to feed her at a regulated rate. She took 70 cc from the bottle at 5 am when the nurse fed her, but she wouldn't get up at 8 am when I got here, she only fussed at 9 am when Karen tried to feed with the bottle, and the same at 11 am when we tried to work with her and the speech/feeding therapist. We tried to give her a feeding by NG gavage at about 10 am but after she had about 30 cc, it all came back up...and out her nose mostly! That must be the most horrible feeling. I just hate watching her look so scared when that happens. She immediately falls back to sleep after any bit of stirring. The speech therapist is coming back at 2:30p to see if she's more cooperative then.

The chief pediatrician came to see her this morning and said this kind-of relapse period is not unexpected, but we hope that she would bounce back this evening and tomorrow. She is still very sick, so her great eating yesterday followed by more lethargy today should not be a surprise or great worry unless it would continue downward tomorrow.

  1. Thanks for the update! We continue to pray. It is so hard to be a mom in these situations when you want to be able to kiss it and make it all better. Keep up the strength RK! She will have her happy wiggles back soon! Karen K

  2. Hi baby girl, I love you. Please keep eating and drinking so you can get better. We miss your smiles and wiggles. I am so glad to hear your heart is doing better. We don't want you to have arrhytmia's or feel sick anymore - icky. You've come too far for that, sweet one. Sending teddy bear hugs.....Auntie V

Mommy report: Chatty girl

Braska's been just loving her words lately. She's still signing some, mostly when we're in public or around strangers, but she's adding more words all the time. Many of her words are just attempts at the actual word, but that's where we all start, right?!? We're not saying that she'll be giving speeches next month, but we are very proud that she's become such a mimic and that she is loving using so many sounds. We practice often, just running through her words, signs, and tricks. She especially loves to chime in with videos of herself, so I've been working on compiling all her favorites for her to work with. As I was editing this, she was sitting here saying the words over and over. So funny to hear her talking to herself on the screen and loving it. So here's a peek at some clips from our practice session tonight. Some words are more obvious than others. They are all great attempts, though, and we'll celebrate that! Make an on-line

Nebraska meets Indiana

Braska's reaction to meeting the very kind Rory Feek and his beautiful daughter Indy.  I missed the part where Braska said Indy was sooooooooooo cute!  :) Our dream would be a photo showing the two most beautiful "states" together, right?!?  :)
