Mommy report: Rotavirus

Yes, that's right...rotavirus it is. They decided this morning that Nebraska's acute issue is due to rotavirus. Click on rotavirus for more info, if you'd like. She has been doing better today, but still has a long way to go. She does have a bit more energy today, but nothing like the wiggles and squirms of recent days. She is one hungry little thing, though, and has been eating very well today. She took a bottle three different feedings today, each time taking more than she's ever taken from a bottle. The only catch is that she won't take it from me, but Grandma C has been taking that task and Braska takes it well from her.

They have decided, with the info we have currently, that her weight loss was in fact due to her not getting enough food. So once again, doctors right, RK wrong... shocking, right? Not at all. She apparently was eating enough to not feel hungry and then she stopped. Isn't that what they're always recommending anyway!?! Maybe that's just for adults... So we're aiming to really get the hang of this bottle thing so we can know she's getting enough.

She also was seen by the cardiologists today and another echo was done. Things look good. The arrhythmia from last night was apparently due to the distress of the acute problem, but not related to the previous repairs of the surgery. They did finally discontinued her Lasix, which I'm pleased about considering the dehydration issues. We'll be seeing a cardiologist that specializes with DS soon.

That's the info for today... we appreciate all your support more than we can express.

  2. I'm so happy to hear that it's the Rotavirus and not something worse. When I emailed Daddy yesterday, I asked him if it could be a virus that was going around. A lot of people here in Florida have had the Flu too...
Glad to hear you are doing better but you have to start letting Mommy feed you too.... but I'm glad you are starting to eat again and no Tubes. I'm sure Mommy likes to have snuggle time with you... :-)

Mommy report: Chatty girl

Braska's been just loving her words lately. She's still signing some, mostly when we're in public or around strangers, but she's adding more words all the time. Many of her words are just attempts at the actual word, but that's where we all start, right?!? We're not saying that she'll be giving speeches next month, but we are very proud that she's become such a mimic and that she is loving using so many sounds. We practice often, just running through her words, signs, and tricks. She especially loves to chime in with videos of herself, so I've been working on compiling all her favorites for her to work with. As I was editing this, she was sitting here saying the words over and over. So funny to hear her talking to herself on the screen and loving it. So here's a peek at some clips from our practice session tonight. Some words are more obvious than others. They are all great attempts, though, and we'll celebrate that! Make an on-line

Nebraska meets Indiana

Braska's reaction to meeting the very kind Rory Feek and his beautiful daughter Indy.  I missed the part where Braska said Indy was sooooooooooo cute!  :) Our dream would be a photo showing the two most beautiful "states" together, right?!?  :)
